A promising sign of the growing discovery of joyous makgeolli outside the Korea-sphere is the opening of Anju. This is the new project from Danny Lee and his mother Yesoon Lee, after a fire destroyed their restaurant Mandu two years ago.

They’re also bringing on board Scott Drewno and Drew Kim, Danny’s partners from Fried Rice Collective.

The restaurant will specialize in Korean sool and anju (bar foods), hence the name.
